Temples and fillers: how Doppler ultrasound can increase treatment safety

The temporal region represents one of the most interesting areas of the face from the perspective of rejuvenation, but also one of the most anatomically complex.
Indeed, the presence of the superficial temporal artery and its major branches requires special care during injection procedures, especially when using hyaluronic acid fillers.
In recent years, high-frequency ultrasound has gradually found its way into the clinical practice of aesthetic medicine, offering physicians the ability to visualize anatomical structures in real time that until recently could only be studied through traditional anatomical knowledge.
Integration of the Color Doppler modality also enables identification of the course of major arterial vessels and treatment planning based on the specific anatomy of the individual patient.

The goal is not to replace anatomical knowledge, which remains the foundation of any safe procedure, but to add an additional level of control and awareness.

In temple treatment, ultrasound can be used for:

  • Identify the superficial temporal artery and its anatomical variations;
  • Assess tissue thickness and different anatomical planes;
  • Recognize any pre-existing fillers;
  • Plan the access point and injection plan;
  • Further increase the security level of the procedure.

Modern aesthetic medicine now has tools that allow us to see what we could previously only imagine based on our experience and anatomical knowledge. High-frequency ultrasound represents probably one of the most significant innovations in recent years in this direction.

In the video, a practical example of treating the temples with the various anatomical layers is shown: it is possible to understand how ultrasound imaging can be integrated into pre-procedural evaluation to increase the safety and accuracy of injection procedures.
